Melisse + Jeff’s mountain wedding at Camp Jones Gulch was such a beautiful and gorgeous day! Camp Jones Gulch is a YMCA summer camp nestled in the hills of La Honda, California. Melisse and Jeff chose this venue to tie in their love of the outdoors and hiking – and it was the perfect venue indeed!
When I asked Melisse the story of how they met, she said the following. Cue the waterworks!
We met online, and after I canceled our first date, ghosted Jeff, accidentally reconnected on another dating site, set up another date, went on it, and then he took four months to ask me out again, I knew he was the one! Ha. No, it took us a while and a few tries to make it right but I knew it was something special after that second date (which I really consider our first!).
At the end of 2018, Jeff made the decision to climb Denali in honor of his father, who passed away in 2017 of frontotemporal degeneration, or FTD. Denali is the tallest mountain in North America, and climbing it is a three-week-long mountaineering expedition. I was supportive but I draw the line at ice axes and crampons, so I decided to help out by helping Jeff raise much-needed funds for FTD research. We planned a small fundraising event at a local brewery and invited all our friends – It was more to say thank you for their incredible generosity, and all come together, drink beer, play games, and generally celebrate his upcoming climb.
At the end of the evening, we went to the front of the room to thank everyone, and Jeff started thanking me for putting the event on… and then started saying all these wonderful things… and then grabbed the ring from his best friend and proposed, in front of my mom, my sister, her wife, and some of our very best friends. Honestly my ideal proposal – he did such a great job. There is a video on our website!
What I loved most about their wedding was the number of personal touches to the day. Melisse grew up Jewish, so their ceremony was officiated by her family’s rabbi. Their reception had nods to the outdoors and mountains, and the party favors were donations to The Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration and the GO2 Foundation of Lung Cancer, in honor of Jeff’s father Robert and Melisse’s father Corey. It was a day filled with love, family, and celebration – and again showed me just how much I love being able to capture these special days.
Melisse + Jeff, I wish you all the best as you continue on your adventures and this new chapter of life together!
