Oh my goodness, I don’t even know where to start with this amazing session! Allen and Mariah’s San Francisco engagement session was the most charming and fun shoot ever. They drove all the way up from Southern California for us to shoot together, and let me tell you, I am soooo glad they did!
When these two told me they wanted an urban style shoot, San Francisco was a no brainer. Hidden amongst the city are brick laden streets, funky bars, and courtyard gardens. All it takes is a little exploring and open mind to find photo worthy spots!
We first met outside Shinola in Hotaling Place, and found the sweetest little alley down the street to begin photos in. I will often start sessions with a few test shots to get couples relaxed in front of the camera, before adding in more prompts and direction. But it didn’t take long for these two to warm-up to camera – the first photo below in front of the brick was one of the very first photos we took!
While we were shooting outside of the Shinola store, an employee came out to talk to us – we all thought we were getting in trouble! But to our surprise, he generously took us through the store to a secret courtyard, right in the middle of the building. The huge expansive white walls and greenery made for the most perfect photo opp!
Mariah + Allen had a connection so natural and beautiful, you would have thought they already had a few years of marriage already under their belt. They danced to silent music, giggled in unison, and when snuggled up for photos, fit together like two peas in a pod. I didn’t stop smiling and laughing the entire 2+ hours we spent together – their energy and love was contagious!
My favorite part of the session was at the end (which was also the saddest!), when we popped a bottle of champagne and cheered to a successful shoot, their engagement, and their upcoming wedding in Italy. The sun set behind the ferry building and the evening could not be more beautiful. It was the perfect ending to this San Francisco engagement session!
Thank you Allen + Mariah for having me take your engagement photos!
